I was fortunate to go to Skywood this year. I have been to another facility which I thought was pretty nice. I now know what a Great facility is. The campus alone is beautiful, the woods, the buildings, the trails. The staff are well rounded. Multiple styles of therapy, decades of personal experience all shared in multiple different classes, small groups, one on ones and community wide lessons. Great staff also keep the large campus and large community running. The food, entertainment and activities are constant. The large campus offers plenty of fresh air and room to roam. You are not trapped inside locked buildings. The community bonding in the afternoons and evenings makes for an easy environment to get sober and learn about your sobriety. I would hands down recommend Skywood to anyone who is serious about doing the work and getting sober.

This place is amazing!!! The entire staff of therapists are very knowledgeable and each bring something different to your recovery journey. As others have stated in the reviews, they truly changed my life and how I view my recovery. I cannot endorse and suggest this outpatient more. I’ve attended other IOP’s, but this facility is simple the best! I didn’t attend their inpatient, but I heard from my peers that it is also top notch. | Bear River Health of Boyne Falls is a substance use and addiction recovery facility located in Northern Michigan alongside U.S. Highway 131. Following the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) protocols, they’re accredited by The Joint Commission and certified with the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Licensed | Treatments Programs Payment Options | One year ago, I would start my day violently sick & wishing for the suffering to stop. TODAY, I am counting down two weeks to ONE YEAR CLEAN.
Maybe you're in the same shoes. Stay at an absolute bare minimum a week, it then gets much easier to claw your way to 30 days. Embrace the LOVE you can find on here. Be honest and unashamed. Say what you think, what you're going through, but more importantly LISTEN, be open-minded - that's how to get the most out of your time here.
The place is not bad/fine/good. You have a clean room, bed, and facility, showers. Some of these other reviews mention amazing food: this is no five star hotel. What do you expect?
For the staff, some have a little more patience and empathy than others, you can pretty quickly pick out who's been 'through it' and who hasn't. Advocate for yourself respectfully and you will be heard, everyone I've ever met there has been only focused on helping. But man... Be KIND. Kind and respectful and I promise you will get nothing but the same back.
It's not gonna be for everyone, that's your call. Some of it is tough love, but that's how recovery works. If you want help you can find it here.
I'm no expert; while one year is awesome, I still have my struggles - but I have the lifelong skills I learned with BRH to help me through.
I truly owe my life in part to Bear River, and ALL of the staff there. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
I wish I could name names, but special shout out to my counselor and a few members of staff. Hope you know you rock.

Jail or the streets were your option so remember that these people are getting paid very little yet choose to work here because most of them do care but there are thinhs called HIPPA laws etc and so that takes a toll on certain aspects of how they have to structure thier program. I've been using the partial antagonist medicine for a few years and had great success until my doctors started making it difficult for ne to constantly stay in them and stabilize.
That and when you administer the pairtial antagonist you have yo go into the office to see them. This is always a smaller satellite location that you visit with people everywhere and most of them if not all of them aren't anywhere near as sick or hurting like an addict in withdraw.
The point to that was you have to see your doctor in person and in full blown withdrawals state when you see the docs. Then they have to determine if your ready for that medicine and make sure that you're such enough to start the meds because of you administer it too soon ot will make the person even more sick!!
It's very very difficult to start that med and can be dangerous and discouraging to many people. I was one of them for a while.

This place was a pivotal part of my recovery journey. I was here twice, once in September 2019 and once in March 2023 (which was my last time in rehab). I’ve been to several different rehabs all over the state and I’ll say this:
Brighton isn’t the nicest facility, they don’t have the best food, but Brighton has THE BEST therapy, therapist, and THERE is where you get some of the most one-on-one time with your therapist. They give you real thoughtful work to do on your own and hold you accountable to change and doing the work if you say you really want it. I just want to take some time to shed some light on this beautiful painstaking have! Meridian holds the most special place in my heart. They have literally become like a family to me. I was a hard case. I was stubborn and guarded. I'm a hands on learner and it's taken me at least 10 years in and out to receive the gift meridian and sobriety offers! People like jayson murray the p.r.c. there taught me "move a muscle change a thought" or "you just have to draw the line". These things sound simple but when you're actually in a jam and you can hear that voice overcoming this disease the somethings working! Something or someone bigger and far more GREATER than me is moving in my life! Having someone like Jackie willing to put in work day to day to help bridge the gaps for us in a daily basis is LIFE CHANGING! I couldn't ask for a better person to ask for help! The M.T.'s that show up everyday with a smile and love everyday in spite of their own lives is the heart of this program! They all choose to work here and show us unconditional love. Meridian loved me until I could love myself. I can say that I truly do love myself today! Now that I've actually experienced recovery I will stop at nothing less ONE DAY AT A TIME THOUGH! The medical staff is also the heartbeat 💓! I want to give a thank you to Corey for always loving me and treating me like I'm your own, stephanie- I remember saying to you "I just want to be a good person" you didn't even pause when you said "you are a good person you just have a disease, and I mean that"!! I will never forget that! Becky- I just adore you so much, courtney-diddnt get to see yah but I appreciate you and think about you often, Lyndsay and Amanda you guys are rockstars and meghan- I'm so grateful for the program you implemented and all the positive changes happening here!!
Laurell- I'm so grateful you were my caseworker! You allowed me to jump in and face fears Id usually stuff. You encouraged me and reminded me of who I am. I'm forever grateful! Autumn- it's such a blessing to see you working in this field. You inspire me so darn much! I pray one day I can join this beautiful place on the other side! I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to this rehab center and its staff. No, it’s not a luxury retreat or a spa-like setting—but neither is prison, or worse, the morgue. This place is about recovery, not comfort, and I believe they are doing exactly what they’re meant to do: helping people get their lives back.
The staff was kind, dedicated, and truly cared. My son's father recently completed treatment here, and while he shared that it was incredibly tough—physically, emotionally, and mentally—he also said it was nothing compared to the pain of being out on the streets, lost in his addiction. Recovery isn’t supposed to be easy. If it were, addiction wouldn’t be so hard to beat.
I’ve seen some reviews criticizing the center for not giving constant updates to family members. I get it—when someone we love is in pain, we want answers, we want involvement, we want to help. But part of the healing process means letting go of that need to control. We didn't have control when our loved ones were in active addiction, and recovery is no different. The program is designed to build independence, accountability, and internal strength. Constant calls, questions, and attempts to interfere, even with good intentions, can undermine that.
Trust the process. Let the professionals do their job. It’s not always comfortable—but neither is addiction. Discomfort is part of growth, and growth is what this place is all about.
If you're looking for somewhere that offers real recovery—not coddling, but healing—this is it. Let them work, and give your loved one the space to fight for their own life.

Detroit, Michigan | The Salvation Army Harbor Light provides a recovery program for adults in need of alcohol or drug rehab. They provide detox, residential, intensive outpatient, general outpatient and transitional housing programs. They have specialized programs for women and children and veterans. They accept walk-in and referral patients. The Salvation Army Harbor | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Gave 4 stars not because I've been there but because I've contacted them for some questions and they were really helpful and they do great things for people with very little money. I would've gave 5 stars but it's so far from my house that it's impossible for me to attend. The Salvation Army helped my family some years ago when they were in need and I'll always be greatful for that. I donate to the downriver store often.

I’ve been through 3 therapists at this clinic, they were very nice people. The service is great, the ladies at the desks are always kind and helpful.
Only things I would say is that sometimes the therapists go against your opinions and judgement and make you feel out of place or out of control. BUT all of my experiences here have been pleasant. Loved my past two therapists, Mattie DeBoe (no longer a therapist, moved to higher position) and Kelly anthi.
Compared to pine rests outpatient/inpatient care facility, this place is paradise. Their inpatient and outpatient facility has many many issues with the inpatient and resident facilities, the outpatient facilities are very helpful and welcoming, quite opposite of the inpatient.

Clarkston, Michigan | New Oakland Family Center provides various mental health and co-occurring disorder services in Clarkston, Michigan. I truly can’t say enough about how much the New Oakland Clarkston location changed my life. I came in during a crisis, and I left feeling stable, hopeful, and genuinely happy. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with open arms—there’s no judgment, just compassion, warmth, and professionalism.
I was part of the face-to-face program at 28 years old, and everything exceeded my expectations. The group therapy sessions were incredibly powerful and gave me tools I didn’t even realize I was missing. My group leader, Kailee, was with me for the majority of the program and is genuinely one of the most bubbly, kindhearted, and knowledgeable souls I’ve ever met. She created a space that was safe, supportive, and uplifting every single day.
Niki, my therapist, is truly amazing—so insightful, attentive, and caring. Dominique, the nurse, is an absolute gem—compassionate, patient, and always there when you need her. And Matt, the psychologist, didn’t waste any time helping me find the right medication and support. He took my concerns seriously and acted quickly, which made a world of difference.
The staff here truly care. It doesn’t feel like “treatment”—it feels like a community of people who love what they do and want to help you grow and heal. The food was great every day, the atmosphere was calming and structured, and they even gave us breaks for fresh air, which made a huge difference for my mental health.
This place gave me a full toolbox to take with me, and for the first time in a long time, I feel ready. But here’s the truth: you get out what you put in. If you show up, participate, and commit to the process, you will see change. This team will support you every step of the way, but you have to meet them there.
What sets New Oakland apart is that their care doesn’t stop when you walk out the door. They set you up with a real plan for continued support—and they actually follow through. I will forever be grateful for the experience I had here. This team helped me find myself again.
Thank you, New Oakland Clarkston. You saved me.

I recently was discharged from the PHP Face to Face program. It was an amazing program! I learned a lot of coping skills, and really felt that I was in a safe, non-judgmental facility.
I spent most of my time with Kailee. She is EXACTLY what the mental health world needs. She is so kind. She really takes the time to get to know. She challenges you, makes you get a little out of your comfort zone, and shows incredible support. I also had the pleasure of working with Martha and Dr. Harris. Both were so warm and friendly. You can tell they just want to see you feel better.
Everyone I encountered was so kind! They never made me feel bad or insecure about being there. Even the front desk ladies were amazing! The one who works check in was always in a great mood, and that helps you settle in and feel comfortable.
Overall, I highly recommend New Oakland in Clarkston if you’re in a dark patch. They will help you create an action plan to get you back to your best self! I hope I never hit a spot again where I need PHP again, but it’s great to know there’s such wonderful humans willing to help you. 10 out of 10 experience.

Michigan’s addiction treatment centers provide specialized care for those seeking more than a one-size-fits-all approach. Specialty programs range from dual diagnosis treatment to gender-specific therapy and beyond. These options allow for more comprehensive and effective recovery support. Dive into Michigan’s range of specialized treatment programs.
Inpatient treatment offers intensive medical and therapeutic support in a residential setting. You stay onsite and participate in daily therapy, medication management, and group counseling. This immersive environment helps Michiganians stabilize, manage withdrawal, and build foundational recovery skills away from everyday triggers or distractions.
Detox is often the first step in treating substance use disorders for Michiganians. It focuses on eliminating drugs or alcohol from the body. Detox may require 24-hour medical oversight, medications to ease withdrawal symptoms, and emotional support. Successful detox prepares individuals in Michigan physically and mentally for ongoing treatment and long-term recovery strategies.
Outpatient treatment for substance use provides structured care through regular counseling, education, and recovery support. This typically occurs several hours each week. Participants maintain their daily routines, including work or school, while receiving treatment in Michigan. This treatment is ideal for individuals with stable living conditions and strong support systems. It offers continuity and accountability throughout recovery.
Treatment for alcohol use disorder combines therapy, peer support, and sometimes medications to reduce relapse risk. Michigan programs may be outpatient or residential and are tailored to severity and individual needs. Key components include behavioral therapy, relapse prevention planning, and ongoing support groups. They're all aimed at promoting abstinence and long-term stability.
Treatment for opioid use disorder often includes medication-assisted treatment (MAT), behavioral therapy, and structured support systems. Programs in Michigan may use medications such as methadone or naltrexone to normalize brain chemistry and reduce relapse risk. Therapy addresses behavioral patterns, while peer groups offer accountability. Effective care is personalized and may span inpatient or outpatient settings.
